Delicious Veggie Burritos

Hello friends.

I am home early from work today.  I am in the middle of working a 12 day straight work week and thought I'd take a half day today.  I plan on doing some reading (Cormac McCarthy's The Road) and perhaps working in a nap.

I just made an excellent interpretation of Cha Cha Cha's Spinach Tofu burrito.

Ben's Spinach Tofu Burrito Delight:

2 tbsp Olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
4 cloves garlic
1 handfull fresh spinach or 1/2 cup cooked spinach
5 mushrooms
1/2 cup black beans
1/2 cup chopped tofu (Substitute chicken if preferred)
salt and pepper to taste, chili flakes optional
Chipotle hot sauce

Heat a frying pan on medium and add two table spoons of olive oil.  I love garlic so I chopped four cloves and threw them into the pan and added half an onion chopped in thin slices.  Next throw in the mushrooms and a handful of fresh spinach.  Saute together and add salt and pepper to taste, I like it spicy so I threw in a large pinch of chili flakes too.  After the spinach is wilted I added the black beans and tofu, both items are already cooked so you just need to let them heat through.  All of the flavor are pretty mild, so this is where the chipotle hot sauce is a must.

Enjoy.

Damn that Phillip Seymour Hoffman!

He keeps making me go see his movies because of his brilliance, and then slaps me with the depravity of humanity.  He chooses some crazy roles.  I went and saw Before the Devil Knows You're Dead tonight, and it was another total mind @$%&!!!  I would be tempted to put it on par with another of his movies, Happiness, which is still the most offensive movie I have ever seen to date, despite it's genius.  BTDKYD is a story of the destructive powers of lust, greed and envy.  The family dynamics I guess are what always effect me the most in these types of movies.  Here are some thoughts that crossed my mind whilst watching this movie:  "Holy crap!", "This movie is the biggest shit sandwich of all time!", "How far does this rabbit hole go?!", I'll spare you all the other more crazy thoughts.

I think the genius of these two movies is they don't take the easy way out in the telling of the story.  I can see the future screen writers of America sitting in their college classes, learning big summer block-buster formulas and how to cater to directors like Micheal Bay.  Learning to compromise their vision to make a buck.  The raw power of these movies is that they don't pander to the masses, they have a message and will not dilute it to attract the big crowds.  These movies are disgusting and offensive, the characters are often pathetic. However they resonate deep inside of me with that one thing in common that we all share, our humanity.

It makes me want to get saved all over again.

Monkey Business

I was talking to my little brother the other day.  He is getting married in the fall sometime.  I was commenting how I thought it a bit odd how involved in the wedding planning experience he was.  He defended himself and I was appeased.  However in that conversation, we broached the idea of having a monkey in the wedding.  Ideally a chimp of sorts, dressed in a tuxedo.  He would ride a tricycle down the aisle and deliver the ring at the appropriate time.  We realized that would have to be a specially trained monkey to do that.  I figured as a groomsman I could walk him down the aisle holding his hand, and then hold him during the ceremony instead.

So anyways, I contacted an animal talent agency today.  If the wedding were in LA, and not in Denver, we could rent a chimp for $2000.  That would cover a couple hours.  A trainer would have to walk him down the aisle instead of me, which is a bummer.  She said the trainer would dress appropriately, however I forgot to ask if the chimp could wear a tux too.

If anybody wants to sponsor this event, please contact me.  If anyone living in the Denver area has a chimp for rent, please contact me.

No Country for Old Men

My favorite movie directors are Wes Anderson and the Coen Brothers.  I watched No Country for Old Men tonight, the latest from the Coen brothers and was blown away by the greatness of this movie.  The characters were flawless, the dialogue was seamless. I would give this movie a 9.5 out of 10.  The villain was the scariest of all time. Go see it, but be warned, it is disturbing at times.
